This issue follows the travel trend to South Korea, where a booming beauty scene is attracting visitors in pursuit of the perfect glow. According to the Korean Ministry of Health, around 1.2 million people travelled to the country in 2024 for aesthetic treatments alone, with the market projected to reach £21.13bn by 2030. The surge reflects a wider shift identified by the annual Global Wellness Summit, where ‘skin longevity’ is emerging as one of the fastest-growing trends in wellness travel. We explore what’s fuelling this global glow-chasing pilgrimage and what you should try: think salmon sperm (PDRN) facials, 18-step scalp and hair treatments, K-pop idol makeovers and highly personalised analyses of your skin tone.

But longevity tourism isn’t just defined by science and cutting-edge technology. This edition also focusses on natural approaches to long-term vitality, including the harnessing the healing power of water.

Charlotte Wigram-Evans, lead editor of the Collection, said: “Across the globe, spas have long embraced our love of all things aquatic. Now, a new wave of water-based wellness experiences is emerging, from riding waves to overcome trauma on Morocco’s Atlantic coast to drifting through Norway’s fjords to a soundtrack of whale song.”

National Geographic Traveller(UK)chases the midnight sun in Norway /national-geographic-traveller-uk-chases-the-midnight-sun-in-norway/ Thu, 02 Apr 2026 11:27:24 +0000 /?p=14445 National Geographic Traveller(UK) is turning its gaze northwards. Over the last few years, the number of travellers considering so-called ‘coolcations’ has surged dramatically, with global travel network Virtuoso reporting a 44% increase in bookings to more northerly destinations such as Iceland, Canada and, of course, Norway. But the latter’s appeal lies beyond its pleasant summer temperatures. Teetering on the northeastern edge of Europe, the Scandinavian nation is one big outdoor adventure, with the summer months promising kayaking excursions between islands, hikes over mountains carpeted with wildflowers and cabin stays in forests filled with cloudberries and chanterelle mushrooms.

This month’s issue explores Norway from top to bottom, from the art-filled streets of Oslo’s Grünerløkka district to the wild archipelago of Vesterålen and the region of Sunnmøre, where a new generation of Norwegians are keeping ancestral foraging and farming techniques alive. Readers can uncover all this and more in the May issue of National Geographic Traveller (UK), available now.
